Introduction

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) held two national conferences on cyberbullying this autumn to launch the new cyberbullying guidance for schools which was produced for the Department by the children’s internet charity Childnet International in close consultation with members of the DCSF Taskforce on Cyberbullying. The first of these events was generously sponsored by O2 and was held on Tuesday 25th September at the indigO2 conference centre, part of the new O2 arena in Greenwich. The event brought leading representatives from government, industry, schools and wider child welfare together to review the new guidance. A specially commissioned drama was written and performed by young people and by using the latest in interactive technology delegates and young people were able to hear from each other as to the most effective ways to ensure that schools can respond to cyberbullying and better protect children.

Building on the success and considerable feedback from the working sessions at the first national conference, Childnet worked with the DCSF on organising a second Cyberbullying conference which took place on Thursday 22nd November as part of the national Anti-Bullying Week and was held at the Emirates Stadium.

The event included contributions from young people and also used the same interactive technologies to help capture key points, and hear from each other.
