| The Role of Further Education Providers in Promoting Community Cohesion and Preventing Violent Extremism: Consultation Workshops |
The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills is holding a series of workshops across the country to seek views on the role of Further Education (FE) providers in promoting community cohesion with a particular focus on those aspects that contribute to preventing violent extremism. Our aim is to develop a shared understanding of what FE providers should be doing in this regard and to identify what additional support they will need in playing their part in this important agenda.
These workshops compliment the on-line E-Consultation that is being hosted by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. You can view the consultation document by visiting our E-consultation site www.dcsf.gov.uk/consultations. The workshops will provide a more interactive means for you to feed in your views on the key areas of activity within the consultation:
- Risk management of violence/violent extremism;
- Promoting shared values; creating space for debate; supporting mainstream voices;
- Breaking down segregation amongst learner communities; supporting dialogue and engaging learners in wider society;
- Ensuring learner safety and colleges that are free from bullying, harassment and intimidation;
- Providing support for learners who may be at risk and appropriate sources of advice and guidance;
- Ensuring that learners and staff are aware of their roles and responsibilities in preventing violent extremism;
- Promoting community cohesion in training delivered within a workplace
The workshops will be chaired by an AoC Regional Director and include presentations from DIUS and colleges with a strong track record in this area.
Information will also be provided on the resources available to support FE providers in promoting community cohesion and preventing violent extremism.
