Introduction

We are delighted that you have expressed an interest in attending our first national conference in London on Tuesday 8th July 2008. The conference takes place at the historic Royal Horticultural Halls & Conference Centre.

This free one day conference focuses on engaging people and communities to help organisations deliver world-class services. The conference will highlight the benefits of engaging people and communities, the need for strategic leadership to embed engagement within organisational culture as well as the systems and tools available to help commission and provide safer, more efficient and effective services. The day will also highlight the implications from Lord Darzi's NHS Next Stage Review, the NHS constitution and other government initiatives on engaging people and communitities.

David Nicholson CBE, NHS Chief Executive;  Mark Britnell, Director General of Commissioning & System Management and the new National Director of Patient and Public Affairs, Joan Saddler OBE will be leading this free one day conference in London. The conference will be chaired by David Brindle, Public Services Editor from the Guardian newspaper.

The conference focuses on engaging people and communities to help organisations deliver world-class services through strategic leadership and more effective use of existing and new systems.

The purpose of the conference is to:

  • Showcase engaging people and communities using examples from World Class Commissioning; Long Term Conditions and Shifting Care Closer to Home. This will give the conference a practical edge.
  • Provide commissioners and service providers with examples of best practice and tangible “products” and “tips’’.
  • Provide delegates with an opportunity to understand how engaging people and communities can be introduced within their own organisations.
