NARPO Annual Conference
Using webcasting technologies to reach wider audiences.
The National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO) has over 85,000 members managed via 111 branches across the UK. Branch secretaries nominate approximately 10% of their membership to attend the conference to comprise a delegation of approximately 500 members. The Live Group were approached to support the management and technical elements of the conference, ensuring members received up-to-date information on NARPO’s activities.
The conference was held at The Grand Hotel in Brighton in the Empress Suite, the hotel’s largest room so the stage set and technical design was designed to have a big impact. To appeal to younger, newer members we gave the conference a contemporary look and feel. To further achieve this our team proposed a live webcast of the conference. Given that less than 1% of the membership could reasonably attend the conference in person, this seemed the perfect way to improve communications in the association and appeal to some of their younger members, without a great increase in costs.
Our team offered reassurance and practical insights into how it worked and the measures we would take to ensure virtual delivery is successful. Throughout the project the team took the client step by step, ensuring they felt comfortable with the format of the day. We provided a bespoke webcast viewer page (https://registration.livegroup.co.uk/narpo/) for the conference which was circulated by NARPO and included on their own website.
Given the client’s initial caution about using webcasting for the event, it proved extremely successful, with peak viewing figures doubling the size of the venue audience. After the event we edited the conference footage and it was uploaded to NARPO’s YouTube site to increase the reach of the conference even further.
